Overview

The Butler Community Mental Health Centre project is a comprehensive interior fitout of a new, unoccupied building.

The clinic is operated by multidisciplinary teams including psychologists, nurses, occupational therapists, social workers, welfare officers, Aboriginal mental health workers and peer support workers, and supported by general practice liaison officers and community development officers. It provides:

  • Emergency and non-urgent psychiatric services to adults aged 18 to 65 years who have a mental illness;
  • Mental health consultation, urgent and non-urgent assessments; and
  • Multidisciplinary community rehabilitation services for the individual’s mental illness.

Drawing on our team’s extensive experience across workplace, health and architectural specialisations, the fitout called for a range of different types of spaces including reception and waiting rooms, consulting rooms to suit various levels of acuity, and back-of-house workstations.

We consulted widely with stakeholders to gather insights and inputs into our collaborative design process.

The design is focused on the implementation of an enabling, engaging and safe environment for all staff and patients, with bright colour schemes and the provision of natural light throughout all public-use spaces.
