Overview

Ellenbrook Early Learning Centre (EELC) is part of MercyCare’s vision to enable people and communities to thrive.

This development was purposefully designed to provide care for children aged 0-5 years, and to provide outside school hours care for primary school-aged children.

As MercyCare’s first new-build project, this presented an opportunity to redefine their service and delivery model around the needs of their young charges.

SPH assisted MercyCare to research and understand ideal operational workflows, childcare models, food service plans and compliance requirements, while developing an innovative vision for the site.

A key outcome was that the project achieved a higher certified number of child places due to the clever use of veranda and place spaces for circulation, and they are lovely, green and bright spaces to enjoy and use.

This design solution provides a wide range of benefits for the children and their parents, and carers and staff. The design enables outdoor play, exploring, digging in the dirt, lots of fresh air and natural light. And versatile shared spaces can be used for art, learning and structured play across all age groups.

This design emulated and expanded MercyCare’s early learning model and service offering. In short, this new childcare building provides a series of inspiring and fit-for-purpose spaces that offer seamless connections with the natural environment, providing children with endless opportunities to explore, grow and learn.

“I would like to thank you for your involvement and outstanding performance on multiple MercyCare projects.

I wish to express my thanks and appreciation for the significant effort that has been applied by SPH to our Ellenbrook Early Learning Centre, and more recently the Kelmscott Aged Care and Retirement Living Master Plan.

These are significant projects for MercyCare and your attention to detail has assisted us to maintain a very tight feasibility and delivery programme.

We are looking forward to opening the doors at Ellenbrook later this year, and commencing the more detailed design phase for Kelmscott in the near future.

The seamless delivery of the design and documentation has been efficient and of a high quality. Your engagement and management of the sub-consultant team and contractor is also acknowledged.

I have enjoyed participating in the development of these projects and feel that the SPH team has a clear understanding of MercyCare’s vision and has presented designs that align with this in a professional manner to our various stakeholders.

Importantly, I note that in parallel to these projects, there have been numerous Early Learning Centre proposals that – following feasibility and concept design phase – have not progressed, based on honest and trustworthy advice from SPH.

I thank you for your patience and assistance as we have worked through these developments.

Overall, I am delighted with the performance of SPH to-date and look forward to continuing to work with the team on future projects.”
