Ellenbrook Early Learning Centre has been meticulously designed to ensure children flourish in a caring, inspiring environment, enriched with elements of nature. It was envisioned that children would thrive as they play in the huge outdoor play space, surrounded by a deep wraparound veranda, with floor-to-ceiling windows that allows an abundance of natural light to filter through to the indoor playrooms.
Aesthetically the building has been designed to achieve a balance of stimulating and calming elements with colours and finishes selected to ensure they are appropriate for the function of each space. The single storey form, with high ceilings and the strong connection to the outdoors, achieves a home-like nurturing environment that is engaging for children.
Functionally, a well-organised building from an operational perspective has been achieved by incorporating the following design aspects:
Parking for staff, parents and carers and transport vehicles
Clear observation of children from staff rooms, staff offices and back of house areas where appropriate
Centrally located, commercial style kitchen
A flexible space the hub used for meals and an additional indoor play space.
The single entry/exit point and enhanced visual surveillance via uninterrupted sightlines which are enabled through the Centres design, also provides greater security and safety for children and for staff.
