Overview

HanRoy engaged SPH and a full consultancy team to deliver the design, documentation and construction stage assistance for the $140M upgrade to their existing 2700 room village north of Newman.

The project has an ambitious upgrade scope, seeking to refurbish all spaces to be equivalent to Perth CBD’s standard and set the village benchmark within the Pilbara once again.  The 12 year old village includes: 2,200 room refurbishments to hotel standard; existing dining facility converted to high quality restaurant, bar and lounge; existing gym refurbished and upgraded; resort-style pool and change facilities; new marketplace (shop); refurbished reception check-in space; new 2,000sqm gym and wellness centre; central external covered promenade social space; new bus shelters and waiting spaces; site wide landscaping upgrades; and site wide signage, CCTV and pedestrian walkways.

Our design seeks to draw on modern salutogenic design principals, to promote relaxation and separation from the harsh work environment and provide a variety of inclusive spaces for all residents. Technology, natural materials and real planting are integrated into all spaces to ensure the highest quality of outcome.

Most facilities are existing and have required extensive investigations and testing to validate their performance and reuse within the project. This process, along with a structured stakeholder engagement process, was critical to the success of the design.

Commenced in late 2023, the design is staged to be completed in September 2024 and construction has commenced on early phases.
