SPH Architecture + Interiors are engaged by Sodexo to provide master planning, architectural and interior design services to enable the redevelopment and expansion of Collinsville Mine Camp in Queensland. The scope of work includes a 102-accommodation unit extension to the existing camp along with new tavern, maintenance and laundry buildings. Internally, the scope is to provide interior design services to upgrade the dining, office and reception areas.

SPH worked closely with Sodexo stakeholders to gain understanding of how the end users occupy the site. The masterplan aims to improve the sense of community amongst residents in the camp, by creating a ‘town square’ which is achieved through clustering the dining hall, tavern, reception, and outdoor bbq area into a central zone. This arrangement encourages residents to spend more time engaging with others, due to the locality of buildings and ease of access between them. Large shaded decked areas connect these buildings, which have views to greenspace and lawned areas, creating an uplifting indoor and outdoor environment. The masterplan also highlights zones for a basketball court and cricket nets, to increasing the offering of recreational facilities available for residents at the camp.
